LEND YOUR SUPPORT

Our friends and community partners, Brothers of the Desert have created a guide to Black Owned Business in the Coachella Valley which you can find on their website here.

Please consider lending your support to these local businesses who have faced hardship through the pandemic and from a financial system which often fails them.

TAKE ACTION
THE NATIONAL LGBTQ+ WOMEN*S COMMUNITY SURVEY

This study invites people who have identified as women at any point on their journeys and want to share their experiences of centering women in their emotional, familial, sexual, and/or personal lives. At present this study is only open to participants currently living in the USA.

The National LGBTQ+ Women*s Community Survey welcome lesbian, bi, pansexual, trans, asexual, intersex, and queer women who partner with women; trans men who want to report on their experience of partnering with women when they identified as or were perceived to be girls or women; and non-binary people who partner with or have partnered with women.

Your responses will be an important contribution to a ground-breaking community report on LGBTQ+ women’s experiences of pursuing housing, employment, health care, public accommodation, and education while building their families and lives. The study is an investigation of discrimination in the lives of LGBTQ+ women and our sources of joy and resilience.

Click here for more details and to take the survey.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Here we are midsummer and The Community FOOD BANK @The Center is going strong in its work to provide food to the residents in our community. Ten years of the Food Bank keeping people fed weekly could never have been achieved without our superb VOLUNTEERS of the Food Bank.

Extraordinary people volunteer weekly, much like our workers in the Unites States Post Office; through rain, sun, bugs, humidity and just plain HOT weather, our volunteers are always there to make it happen.

From the folks who used to staff our “grocery store” model to the people who stepped in when the pandemic began and all those who have joined since, you are amazing.

When we think about these special humans who put their lives aside for a few hours each week to help those in need, we are overwhelmed with love and see the compassion that guides their spirits. Whether inside bagging or outside loading, checking in, handling traffic, managing walk-ups, breaking down boxes, or taking care of trash, each and every person and their role is valued.

We salute you and with all the love we have to give, we thank you!

Here we honor the memory of folks in our community who have passed.
If you'd like to submit a name for inclusion here, please fill out this form.

Susan Mason (1949 - 2014)
Susan was smart, organized and efficient. I met her on a big Bank of America Y2K project and became friends. She was an important mentor for me. She could cook like hell! I miss her! - John Tuttle

Jefferson Hills ( ? - 2021)
Jefferson was a dedicated volunteer at The Community Food Bank at The Center. An Ocotillo Club member with his partner Paul Kowal, the pair stepped up to volunteer at The Food Bank when the pandemic hit. As a Thursday morning volunteer Jefferson was essential to the unloading and prep of food for our evening distribution. His dry humor and wit will be missed by the morning crew. - Charles Huff

Submissions received by 5PM Friday will be included in the next week's newsletter, for two consecutive weeks.
