Greetings!

Did you know that tonight is the first time we will host a Center Social since February 2020? For anyone unfamiliar with the experience, The Center, in partnership with local hotels, restaurants and bars, hosts monthly gatherings for our community to come together in fellowship. The events are always packed, and ALWAYS fun.

When I first moved to Palm Springs, I knew very few people. My own introduction to The Center was through a Center Social and I remember feeling an immediate sense of kinship and unity. Because of this our Center Socials continue to occupy a special place in my heart for allowing me not to feel alone.

Thanks to the amazing folks at The Saguaro, tonight we have a great space overlooking their beautiful pool area where The Center's staff will be ready to greet friends old and new. So if you're feeling in need of connection please join us. I've missed seeing your faces.

TAKE ACTION
THE NATIONAL
LGBTQ+ WOMEN*S
COMMUNITY SURVEY

This study invites people who have identified as women at any point on their journeys and want to share their experiences of centering women in their emotional, familial, sexual, and/or personal lives. At present this study is only open to participants currently living in the USA.

Your responses will be an important contribution to a ground-breaking community report on LGBTQ+ women’s experiences of pursuing housing, employment, health care, public accommodation, and education while building their families and lives. The study is an investigation of discrimination in the lives of LGBTQ+ women and our sources of joy and resilience.

IN MEMORIAM

Here we honor the memory of folks in our community who have passed.
If you'd like to submit a name for inclusion here, please fill out this form.

V. Alvin Hester (1933 - 2019)
Long-time friend for over 36 years. Friend to many in the LGBT community in New York City, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. Thank you for the difference you made in our lives. - Raymond Urgo

Larry "Pinkie Meringue Shimmer" Edwards (1969-2021)
Despite Larry's soft and sweet voice, his drag alter ego Pinkie was a star in the Coachella Valley. I have fond memories of Larry and Pinkie alike from my days at Desert AIDS Project, and later here at The Center, at the annual Red Dress Dress Red party. Larry was always willing to volunteer, fundraise, and be there, for and with community. Pinkie's headdresses were indeed showstoppers, but I'll always remember that big heart more than anything else. Our community was lucky to experience that shimmer. - Lex Ortega

Submissions received by 5PM Friday will be included in the next week's newsletter,
for two consecutive weeks.
