When he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, Harvey Milk (1930- 1978) became one of the first openly gay men to be elected to political office in the United States. On election night, Harvey Milk reminded his supporters: “This is not my victory – it’s yours. If a gay man can win, it proves that there is hope for all minorities who are willing to fight.” He was assassinated (along with Mayor George Moscone) on November 27, 1978, only eleven months after taking office. Although he did not live to see his dreams fulfilled, the example of his life and leadership has made him an important national symbol for the struggle for human rights.

Proceeds benefit Coachella Valley youth through Gay Straight Alliance clubs and LGBT youth related programs.

A few years ago, The Center partnered with gay videographer Davey Wavey to film a viral YouTube video featuring Palm Springs seniors sharing advice. More than 370,000 people from all over the world watched this amazing video and heard your powerful words!

Now, we're getting ready to film a NEW viral video with Davey Wavey featuring LGBT seniors - and we want YOU to be a part of it on Monday June 4th. Please use this form to sign up for a 15-minute time slot. We'd like as many LGBT seniors as possible so please bring a friend or two.

To participate in this video, we'd like you to write a short letter to your 18 year old self. What would you want to tell the 18 year old version of yourself, all those decades ago? What guidance, wisdom or knowledge would you want to share? What would you want to tell him or her about today's world? Would you have words of encouragement? Anything you'd want to warn yourself about? Please keep the letter to 500 words or less. Write you letter, and bring it with you on June 4th. We will have you read the letter on camera.

Spots are limited so please reserve your time slot today by using this link!
