Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) was started in order to look at faith through fresh eyes, eyes informed by the LGBTQ insight of exclusion and struggle, but also the ancient and still-radical ideas of the early Christian church. Since 1968 we have founded our belief upon actions – from being the first to perform same sex marriages, to suing the state of California (first in 1970) to recognize marriage equality, to fighting for acceptance and equality in places as diverse as Uganda and Jamaica, Russia and Brazil. We have also led a theological movement that seeks to see sex and the body as good, positive and beloved, not a source of shame.
Here at MCC in the Coachella Valley, Rev Clinton, our pastor, believes we stand or fall on being a radical community of faith that welcomes and celebrates members, not merely tolerates them. Churches come in lots of flavors, but unless we are seeking a relationship with God and community (whatever that looks like), then shopping for flavors will never taste right. Rev Crawshaw was ordained in England as an Anglican Priest, was educated at Oxford and is proud to call both MCC and the Coachella valley his home of choice. He also serves as Vice Chair of the denominational Governing Board and is able to directly link the work of the church across the world (in 22 countries) with the local community here. Come and investigate!
