Kim Kieler joined the center in Oct 2012 as a volunteer and then as the membership coordinator in May 2014. Kim grew up in northern British Columbia and then graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in zoology and later completed a degree in Computer Systems at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Her last position was as the Manager of Systems Integration with a financial institution in Vancouver, British Columbia. She retired at 45. Since then, she has roamed various parts of the world and developed websites for a number of nonprofits. In 2007, Kim married her American partner Dorien in Canada and when DOMA was repealed in 2013 and same sex marriage was recognized in the States, Kim applied for and received her permanent resident card. She loves Palm Springs, saying it feels like home in a way that no other place has felt like home. Having spent time in Myanmar and the Copper Canyon in Mexico, she believes in a strong community that embraces all it's members and that we are all better when we work together; an attitude reflected at the LGBT Community Center of the Desert.
